After much reflection and engagement in our community, I have decided to suspend my congressional campaign and focus on the issue that drew me into this race - our broken immigration system and the horrific consequences people all across our community and this country are experiencing. Immigration is not just a policy topic; it’s a defining issue for our time. It’s also an issue I encounter every single day in our community, my law practice, and my home.
My wife, Maria, came here from Peru when the Communist Shining Path made life there too dangerous for her. But the current administration has done everything it could to vilify immigrants like her and treat them as outsiders. It hit home for me recently when my daughter came to me and asked why Trump hated her for being “brown.”
For me, that was my most important call to action.
While recent polling has shown that I am the strongest competitor to Rep. Salazar, I know that we have the right candidate to defeat her in November 2026 - Robin Peguero. I will be supporting him in this race to elect a true champion for our community, and I encourage you all to do the same.
I am deeply grateful to everyone who supported me along the way. Your encouragement has been inspiring, and I remain committed to fighting for the issues that matter most to our district and our country.
My new organization - Defend the Dream - will focus on telling the real stories of those affected by these attacks on immigrant communities as well as comprehensive strategies to end them now.
I hope you will join me in this fight.
In Solidarity,
Mike Davey
